What is Holistic Counseling and Coaching?
Body-Based practices that address the body, mind, and spirit.
-
Most people in today’s world have experienced some type of distressing event, big or small, that has left a painful mark. I specialize in working with those past traumas. This approach is beneficial for people without trauma as well.
Trained in the Triphasic Model of Trauma, I focus on 3 key steps in treatment:
Safety and Stabilization
Processing Trauma and Integration
Connecting with Others
The intention is to create safety in the individual’s body as well as in their environment, allowing the individual to relate to themselves and to the world in a way that is fulfilling to them.
-
Somatic simply means relating to the body. The methods I specialize in incorporate the physical body, emotional body, mental body, spiritual body, and even energetic body into wellness.
The mind-body connection is important in understanding any “symptoms” that show up in a person’s system. Many modalities of therapy address some of an individual, such as their emotions or thoughts, while overlooking the wisdom the physical body holds. Integrating body-based practices into therapy often helps individuals find deeper and lasting healing and change.
“Trauma blocks
love + connection…
…Love + connection heals trauma.”
-Frank Anderson, M.D.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as a complex system of “parts," each with its own unique thoughts, feelings, and motivations. The goal of IFS therapy is to help individuals understand and harmonize these parts, often by fostering self-leadership and compassion towards oneself. It's based on the idea that each part has positive intentions and that healing involves acknowledging and integrating them rather than suppressing or eliminating them.

Brainspotting
Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. Brainspotting (BSP) was discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D. Dr. Grand discovered that "Where you look affects how you feel." It is the brain activity, especially in the subcortical brain that organizes itself around that eye position.
BSP makes use of this natural phenomenon through its use of relevant eye positions. This helps the BSP therapist locate, focus, process and release a wide range of emotionally and bodily-based conditions. BSP is also a brain-based tool to support the therapy relationship. BSP taps into and harnesses the body’s natural self-scanning, self-healing ability. When a Brainspot is stimulated, the deep brain appears to reflexively signal the therapist that the source of the problem has been found. BSP can also be used to find and strengthen our natural resources and resilience. BSP is a therapeutic tool that can be integrated into many of the healing modalities.
